Open source mobile application projects
At PopularOwl, we create tutorials and courses about open source technologies.
We would like to introduce you to the project we recently created called MobileGap. It’s the list of open source mobile application projects maintained by the community of mobile developers. The motto of this project is ‘don’t reinvent the wheel’
These mobile applications were made open source by their developers and in most cases are hosted on the community code repositories. The MobileGap web application is an open source project itself. It’s maintained in the Markdown format and we use metalsmith.io to build HTML pages.
Why open source mobile apps are interesting to explore?
Open source projects facilitate learning. By seeing how popular applications are built, app creators can find inspiration and example solutions to the problems they are facing. Sometimes you don’t have to reinvent the wheel and start writing code for the specific case from scratch.
Contribute To MobileGap
MobileGap list content is maintained in Markdown and we welcome pull requests from all community. Readme file has the instructions how to add an application to the list.
If you are interested in the internals of the actual MobileGap site, we have published a detailed tutorial about how to maintain static HTML websites with the help of Metalsmith framework. Ping us on twitter if you have any questions or comments.
